Classmate Confidential Pages

This is a new feature. We will periodically post information here about classmates which is too sensitive to be displayed on a public page. This page requires a login to access. This is the same login you used for Reunion Registration. If you do not have a UserName and Password yet, click Register Me on the login page and follow the instructions.

May 20, 2010: There is an update on the Classmate Confidential Information Page, which we urge you to read.

Reunions 2010

Another excellent Reunion is behind us. The weather held up well for Princeton in the spring (the only real rain was Thursday night). A good showing of classmates returned (list to appear here soon). We had our first Friday night class dinner, and, while sparsely attended (9 classmates, 13 total), we had a great time. So start making plans to join us next year!

One item I thought you would find interesting, and perhaps a bit reminiscent of Reunions in our early (?younger) days, appeared in the June issue of Gentleman's Quarterly. No, I don't read this, but my wife was told about it and reported back. Read it here.

Richard Morse tweets from Haiti

Classmate Richard Morse, owner of the Hotel Oloffson in Port-au-Prince and long-time resident of Haiti reports on life during and after the earthquake. See the PAW article in the Feb 24, 2010 PAW (page 33), or read the online article. Also check out this article.

30th Reunion Recap

It's over. A year and a half of discussing, planning, working toward what, I believe, was a truly terrific event. Everything came together tremendously well, and even the Princeton May weather was not too bad, capped off with a tremendous Saturday and Sunday. To those of you who attended, thanks and we hope you had as great a time as we did. To those of you who did not or could not, you missed a great party, but don't worry, the 35th is not very far away! (Not to mention the 31st through 34th.)
Yearbook
Data Entry

View the Yearbook

So far, 25 classmates have entered demographics,
48 classmates have posted 61 essays,
and 22 classmates have posted 60 photos.
A couple of items worth mentioning:
  • First, the Yearbook: If you have not done your yearbook entry, it is not too late. We want every one of you represented. In contrast to past yearbooks, the demographics information part of this one is an ongoing project. We will keep it open on this site forever. We hope you will use it like an enhanced TigerNet, a place where you can come to look up information on your classmates, and, by extension, a place where you will go, as often as needed, to update your own information. So use the buttons on the right to create/edit your entry. Soon you will be able to view the Yearbook entries of your classmates.
  • Second, we hope to amass photos of the Reunion for the benefit of those who were there as well as those who were not. This feature will be available soon, so check back. And speaking of photos, don't miss that great Class Photo, which is now available for sale. (If you pre-ordered it, it will arrive soon in your mailbox.) Click the button to view and (optionally) purchase the photo.
In addition, we will post information here on other interesting Reunion items, as well as items of general interest to the class.

Finally, let's all thank our out-going and congratulate and welcome our new incoming class officers (including a few retreads in there). Our panel for the next five years is:

ANNUAL GIVING - 2009 Final Report:

We finished our 30th Reunion Annual Giving campaign with an eye-popping total of $3.5 million from just over 50 percent of our class. Even in this year, this amount represents the 3rd-largest amount ever given by a 30th year reunion class. It's an incredible performance, with great support from Leon Kalvaria, Rick Grove and the many volunteers who worked with them to achieve this result..

Of the many wonderful interactions I had with fellow classmates talking about Princeton, family, careers, economic challenges, etc., the following is excerpted from an email I received. It speaks so well to the passion and loyalty we feel towards Princeton.

"As things in life turn out, I have been out of work since April 2008. Because I had a final-round job interview on the Monday following the reunion weekend, I appropriately elected to forego the festivities in favor of being present for the hiring meeting. As it turned out, I did not receive the offer, and have had to continue my search in an unemployed (and under-earning) status. Because I have pride in my school and major pride in my class of 1979, I will deliver a contribution of $500 before June 30... mind you that I have now been out of work for 14 months with a house mortgage, monthly living, etc to cover (zero luxuries!!!)... I remain confident and positive in my future and the future of Princeton."

The $3.5 million raised by '79 comprised almost 11 percent of all alumni donations to AG this year. That's truly remarkable for our class to make up such a significant portion of the total. The overall AG campaign finished at $44.6 million (including gifts from parents, friends, matching gifts, etc.) from 58 percent of all alumni.

Thank you so very much. Enjoy the remainder of 2009.

As you know, AG is a key element of the five-year Aspire campaign. Annual Giving provides the opportunity for everyone who cares about Princeton to participate in helping to meet the University's highest priorities on a regular basis. Contributions to AG provide unrestricted funds for many key strategic initiatives - including financial aid and support of many academic and innovative research programs - that might otherwise not attract funding on their own. Moreover, AG is a largely volunteer effort involving a large number of our classmates; as such, it embodies the spirit and sense of shared community unlike almost any other effort among '79ers.

See the updated statistics on the Annual Giving History page.
