ANNUAL GIVING - 2009 Final Report:
We finished our 30th Reunion Annual Giving campaign with an eye-popping total of $3.5 million from just over 50 percent of our class. Even in this year, this amount represents the 3rd-largest amount ever given by a 30th year reunion class. It's an incredible performance, with great support from Leon Kalvaria, Rick Grove and the many volunteers who worked with them to achieve this result..
Of the many wonderful interactions I had with fellow classmates talking about Princeton, family, careers, economic challenges, etc., the following is excerpted from an email I received. It speaks so well to the passion and loyalty we feel towards Princeton.
"As things in life turn out, I have been out of work since April 2008. Because I had a final-round job interview on the Monday following the reunion weekend, I appropriately elected to forego the festivities in favor of being present for the hiring meeting. As it turned out, I did not receive the offer, and have had to continue my search in an unemployed (and under-earning) status. Because I have pride in my school and major pride in my class of 1979, I will deliver a contribution of $500 before June 30... mind you that I have now been out of work for 14 months with a house mortgage, monthly living, etc to cover (zero luxuries!!!)... I remain confident and positive in my future and the future of Princeton."
The $3.5 million raised by '79 comprised almost 11 percent of all alumni donations to AG this year. That's truly remarkable for our class to make up such a significant portion of the total. The overall AG campaign finished at $44.6 million (including gifts from parents, friends, matching gifts, etc.) from 58 percent of all alumni.
Thank you so very much. Enjoy the remainder of 2009.

As you know, AG is a key element of the five-year Aspire campaign. Annual Giving provides the opportunity for everyone who cares about Princeton to participate in helping to meet the University's highest priorities on a regular basis. Contributions to AG provide unrestricted funds for many key strategic initiatives - including financial aid and support of many academic and innovative research programs - that might otherwise not attract funding on their own. Moreover, AG is a largely volunteer effort involving a large number of our classmates; as such, it embodies the spirit and sense of shared community unlike almost any other effort among '79ers.
