'79 Gift to Jazz Program

A $4 million gift from Anthony H. P. Lee to Princeton's jazz program will strengthen and enhance the study and performance of jazz at Princeton, providing resources for undergraduate and graduate research, coursework and visiting faculty in the Department of Music and the Center for African American Studies. For more details, click here. (Note: link currently broken; University working on it.)

30th Reunion!

Our 30th Reunion will be here before you know it! It will be May 28-May 31, 2009. We are already working on the plans, but we need your help! Please complete the 30th Reunion Survey to help us plan the event. If you would like to get involved, contact Mel Mummert. Not sure if you want to attend? Well, listen to what Bob Johnson has to say about that! Click Here. (This clip is 43 seconds long, but may take a couple of minutes to download, depending upon your internet connection speed.)

We plan to send most of the Reunion information via email. If your TigerNet email address is not up-to-date, or you are not registered on TigerNet, you must do so ASAP. Click TigerNet Signup on the left under Classwide Pages for instructions on TigerNet registration. If you do not want TigerNet to know your email address, then please create a login for this website instead (click LOGIN on the left under Secure Pages).

Class Officer Elections: As part of our 30th Reunion, we will elect new class officers for the next five years. Our current officers have done a great job, but we've worn them out(!) and need to replace them. If you are intrested, we would love to have you get involved. Contact Diane Hasling for more information. We would like to put together a slate by early in 2009.

Classmate Kids Directory
A College Search Resource

Are you in the college planning phase for your kids? Have your kids enrolled in, or even graduated from, college? How about Graduate School? Help us build a reference directory so other classmates can connect with you or your kids to help them in the process. Click on Offspring College List in the Secure Pages section on the left and fill in your data. Come back and update it as often as needed. There are search functions so you can find others who have attended or are attending the schools you are interested in. (You will need to create a UserID and Password to access these pages. Click on Register Me on the Login page and follow the directions.)

  • Town Hall Meetings with President Tilghman.

ANNUAL GIVING - April 1 update: Through the end of March, 287 classmates - representing 26% of our class - have donated $247,000. We continue to march toward our goal of 55% participation and $575,000 in total giving. So, we’re almost halfway to achieving our goals, with three months remaining in this year’s campaign ending June 30th.

Leading the charge with me are Rick Grove, who is responsible for overall participation, and Leon Kalvaria, who is chairing our Special Gifts Committee leading up to our 30th Reunion. Supporting Rick and Leon is a large cadre of volunteers numbering more than 40 classmates. Please respond with a contribution – at whatever level is comfortable for you – when someone reaches out to you by phone, email, and/or letter to participate.

As you know, AG is a key element of the five-year Aspire campaign. Annual Giving provides the opportunity for everyone who cares about Princeton to participate in helping to meet the University's highest priorities on a regular basis. Contributions to AG provide unrestricted funds for many key strategic initiatives - including financial aid and support of many academic and innovative research programs - that might otherwise not attract funding on their own. Moreover, AG is a largely volunteer effort involving a large number of our classmates; as such, it embodies the spirit and sense of shared community unlike almost any other effort among '79ers.

-- Don Seitz, Annual Giving Chair

Editor's note: We are currently 19th on the all-time class giving list, with more than $12.5 million in total AG contributions (which does not include such gifts as Bill Powers' $10.5 million 2 years ago, and Anthony Lee's $4 million gift this year)! We were in the top 10 after our 25th and hopefully will be again after our 30th. We have set records for AG for 14 straight years, and still hold the records for the 26th, 27th and 28th. The record for the 29th is within our reach. Don't let the string end!

See the updated statistics on the Annual Giving History page.
